The five singers of Ialma have been gathering traditional songs of their ancestors from Galicia (Spain) for quite a few years. Today, Ialma carries on passing on its songs in a style of its own, varying from authentic to modern styles which create some seductive and festive modern music. Their message is contemporary and universal and focuses on sincerity. The band’s music has been sliding from original folk music into world music. The lyrics and traditional Galician melodies are natural partners to different music styles, like gipsy music or flamenco. Their unique mixture of tradition and renewal makes them the exponent of the new generation in Galician music.
To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Ialma is releasing its fourth album “Simbiose”, 10 art forms and 10 songs. This project is built around ten songs, covering every year of the group’s existence and every art form practised by the five singers (sculpture and painting, gastronomy, literature, photography, viniculture, design, dance, figurative arts and old trades). The new album will be available as from September. No doubt, you will be carried away by “Ialma 10 Years” . Ialma will be supported at the festival by the Flemish vocal & instrumental ensemble “Zefiro Torna”, a choir, a rapper and two dancers.
Press Quotes:
De Standaard: “Nova Era” is moving beyond the earlier recordings of Ialma. One will find own work, besides familiar traditionals. (...) The essence of Ialma remains the same: five women who want to share a message of joy and tolerance through their music. A beautiful, sincere album.”
Digg.be: “Nova Era stands for a varied mix of uplifting and melancholy songs, an excursion through folk music from all over Europe, songs with well-considered arrangements next to melodies, who only need the voices of the five ladies to impress.”
Folkroddels: “With Nova Era Ialma moved on in the direction they took with their earlier album. I wouldn’t call it a new era, but a big step forward. The voices are outstanding, as usual. In my opinion, the added value on this album consists of two things: for the first time they recorded new original songs and the arrangements are wonderfully. A big compliment goes to the musicians and producer Ad Cominotto.”
