Ivan Paduart & Bai Kamara Jr
(Belgium)

Ivan Paduart (piano, composition), Toon Roos (saxophone, composition), Philippe Aerts (double bass), Joost Van Schaik (drums) and Bai Kamara (guitar and vocals).
After a start in the field of jazz-fusion, leading his own group “Aftertouch”, pianist-composer Ivan Paduart sees his main activity in what can be described as modern acoustic jazz. Having studied, 1988, at the Rotterdam's Royal Conservatory with Rob Van Kreeveld, he became in few years, one of the west-Europe's foremost young jazzmen. With the unavoidable influences of Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, pianist-composer Ivan Paduart has forged the individual sound and style which has earned recognition and appreciation from players like Richard Galliano, Tom Harrell, Toots Thielemans, Didier Lockwood, Philip Catherine, Claude Nougaro, Bob Malach, Charlie Mariano, Peter King, Nigel Hitchcock, Tim Armacost, Toon Roos, Gino Lattuca, Rick Margitza, Deborah Brown... and everyone else he has made music with over the years.

Bai Kamara Jr. describes his music as having "a basis in soul with jazz and blues wrapped around it". Sting is cited as an influence, alongside the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye. However, Bai's personally constructed style of music has also arisen from the many various influences of his younger years in Africa.
Singer-songwriter Bai Kamara Jr. was born in Bo Town, Sierra Leone, where he continued to live for most of his childhood. When Bai moved to the United Kingdom for his schooling at the age of 15, his musical talent was awakened by the sounds of the English music scene. As soon as Bai started college in Manchester he began to write his first songs that explored and reflected his diverse cultural, social and political backgrounds. In spite of musical success, Bai moved to Belgium to continue his university career. “Odex Protocole” was one of the bands he initiated in Brussels. OP’s first EP was produced by Mel Gaynor (drummer of Simple Minds) and the debut album by Dan Lacksman (Deep Forest).
In the meantime Bai has released three solo albums. He worked with Youssou ’n Dour for the “Refugee Voices” program, resulting in the album “Building Bridges”, and still today he continues as an engaged singer/songwriter, contributing to causes of various non profit organizations like Unicef and Amnesty International.
