Kristal Klaar Orchestra

Con forza amore, meaning" with strong love and passion", focuses on the passion and love for music that every musician experiences and cherishes, when getting on stage. During the concert, professional musicians and the orchestra of the Kunsthumaniora Brussel will perform together music written by Mozart, Steve Reich and Hans Zimmer amongst others. The different styles, the variation between small ensembles and big orchestra, and the cross-over between instruments and the human voice, guarantee undoubtedly some chicken skin moments.
Engaging texts combine all these ingredients into a great recipe for an extraordinary concert night.

Music and image work complementary. Where image is initially something static, music is by definition movement in time. That's why music can generate an emotion so strongly and quickly, for both the performer and the listener. “Con Forza Amore” uncovers the fracture lines within the various visual disciplines, that cause the synergy between music and image.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most genial composers of all time. He’s the founder of the first Viennese school, together with J. Haydn and L. Van Beethoven. The role played by Mozart can hardly be overestimated. Unlike Beethoven, Mozart is not an iconoclast, but both have indelibly marked the music during their live time and certainly the course of further music history. In his time, the image was mainly put on music through opera. The subtle and sophisticated melody lines in his opera score "Le Nozze di Figaro" are of peerless beauty and perfection, for the orchestra and the vocals.

Modest Moessorgski was, together with Borodin and Rimski-Korsakov, member of the Mighty Five, a collective of five Russian composers. His most famous work is the piano cycle "The Painting Exhibition". This cycle expresses the walk in a museum along the various paintings. Nevertheless, it is not the piano version that is the most known. This work has become very famous, thanks to the rich and magical orchestration of Maurice Ravel.

What used to be the opera is the film today. “Con Forza Amore” is also very applicable to cinema. Since both film and music are situated within the same dimension of time, music has obviously a prominent role in the seventh art. James Horner (Startrek, The Name of the Rose, A Beautiful Mind, Avatar, …) and Harry Gregson-Williams (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Zookeeper’s Wife, …) are unknown to the most of us. Nevertheless, they wrote scores for absolute blockbusters and their music is part of our collective memory.

Peter Meechan’s Lament (from Macbeth) was initially a work for brass band but was rewritten for symphony orchestra. The work is conceived as a symphonic poem. It depicts musically Macbeth's story without the vocals "telling" it explicitly. The lamentio is the central and emotional part of the work. The deepest symbolism is not so much the lamentation of Macbeth's death, but the suffering in its most universal form.

Abstract art emerges in the beginning of the 20th century. Different new forms arise through complete deconstruction and the abstracting of existing structures. This new art form generates different subgroups: ex- and impressionism, cubism, fauvism, minimalism, etc. These forms are eagerly injected into music. Musical parameters such as harmony, rhythm, sounding, instrumentation, melody, etc. are traced to the essence and detached of normative and figurative standards. A new intrinsic and existential form for creating absolute music is emerging: l’art pour l’art. A.Schönberg and I.Stravinski are composers who have shaped this approach, later on also J. Cage and Steve Reich. Reich’s "Clapping" is the perfect example.
