Les Violons de Bruxelles is formed by the best jazz violin-players of Brussels and Belgium. They will take you to the richest and most surprising musical landscapes that stretch from the finest jazz standards to Brazilian choros and from bop to Django Reinhardt, and they also present compositions of their own inspiration, influenced by many different cultures. At times, the combination of the three violins will give you the sensation of a sound and real string orchestra! Their sensual and generous music will undoubtedly enchant your hearts and souls. Their debut album was released in September 2012.

Renaud Crols (born July 13, 1983 in Libramont) learned to play the violin at the age of six and the guitar at the age of nine. At seventeen,he made his debut at the Royal Conservatoire of Liège and left with the First Prize in violin, in chamber music and in music theory. At the same time he fell in love with jazz-playing and improvisation and he got himself involved in various bands. By the age of twenty-one, he had moved to Brussels and started his voyage of discovery into gypsy music from Romania and the Balkans. He focused on jazz, and more specifically on Manouche jazz. He had the opportunity to perform several times with the famous Romanian gypsy orchestra “Taraf de Haïdouks”. Three years later, he toured in Canada with the Belgian sitar player Bert Cornelis and internationally renowned Indian tablas master, Partha Mukherjee. A couple of years ago, he went on a world tour with the ballet representation “Pitié” of Belgian choreographer Alain Platel. Today, Renaud Crols mainly performs with classical or jazz ensembles.

Tcha Limberger was born into a musical family, with each member playing musical instruments (his grandfather was the legendary Piotto Limberger). His Manouche tzigane father, Vivi Limberger, and his Flemish-born mother, Lut Bruyneel, inducted him into their own culture. As a young boy, Tcha was bent on becoming a flamenco singer. Aged twelve, he started out on the clarinet, joining the family orchestra, the Piottos. In due course, he swapped the flamenco guitar for a Django guitar, learning how to play with the likes of Koen De Cauter and Fapy Lafertin as he went along. At the instigation of Dick Vanderharst and Herman Schamp, to name just two, he learned how to analyse music, considerably widening his horizons in the process. When Tcha turned seventeen, he took up the violin and by the time he was twenty-one, he had left for Budapest where he took classical and tzigane musical classes from Horvat Bela. Following his return, he went on to play in or set up a number of orchestras, making quite a number of recordings as a freelance instrumentalist (Lolo Meier Quartet, Waso jazz quartet, Romani, the Piotto's, Robin Nolan, Stochelo Rosenberg, Birelli Lagrene, Fapy Lafertin, Boros Lajos, Puka Karoly, Berki Viktor, Toni Rudi, the Budapest Gypsy Orchestra, …).

Alexandre Tripodi started to play at the age of fourteen in various bands. He has always been inspired by the sound and the lyrical style of Stéphane Grapelli, but also took great interest in the Bop style of the forties and fifties, which resulted in his own very personal style. In the meantime Alexandre has played frequently in Belgium and abroad.

Double bassist Sam Gerstmans and guitarist Dick van der Harst will accompany these three virtuoso violinists at this edition of the Djangofolllies.
