Carlo Nardozza - Michel Bisceglia Duo
(Belgium)

Carlo Nardozza: trumpet
Michel Bisceglia: piano
Carlo Nardozza (°1982) is a born talent and the best trumpeter of his generation. You don't even need to take our word for it. French bassist Henri Texier also calls him "un très grand talent" and has enlisted him in his international band.

This friendly chap from Limburg studied at the Maastricht conservatory, where he started his own quintet. Together, this crew of like-minded souls conquered the jazz stages in the Benelux, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy, at lightning speed. In 2006, they won the Jerry Van Rooye-award for Trendsetting Jazz Band at the Jazztival in Maastricht. A few months prior, they won the Prize for Best Composition at the Tremplin Jazz Concours in Avignon. Nardozza's winning composition, The Dozzy Suite, pulls together all his major influences, ranging from Dave Douglas to Italian folk music. It’s the story of his growing up in the multicultural society around the Limburg cole mines. After the success of their debut Making Choices, the suite was immortalized on a second CD Winterslag, with guest musician Gwen Cresens (Papillon, Tanguedia, Arno…) on accordion. The Carlo Nardozza Quintet performs music from all over the globe: flamenco, musette, samba, hard bop and a few sprinklings of free-style improvisation.

Michel Bisceglia (°1970) composes, arranges, produces, directs, teaches and performs. He lives and breathes music. Dewey Redman, Toots Thielemans and Philip Catherine; they all know the scope of this musician's aptitude. This Italian Limburger has a penchant for emotion and depth combined with a natural litheness. The avalanche of ideas that Bisceglia throws in his improvisations, is almost endless: there is so much to play and so little time. Connoisseurs know it for quite some time now: flexibility is Bisceglia's trademark.

Michel Bisceglia has amazing ears and an open mind. In 1993 he was commissioned to write a work for the opera of Aachen. That’s where he discovered his affection for writing and arranging. Since then, he has been conducting his own arrangements with the Japan Symphonia Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders, amongst others.
But also artists in the pop and chanson genre, like Kris De Bruyne, Johan Verminnen, Jo Lemaire, Ozark Henry, Hooverphonic and Mauro Pawlowsky have asked him as a composer or arranger. In jazz, he shared the stage with Randy Brecker, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Dewey Redman and many others.
His curiosity takes him on unexpected paths. For example, his current work on the new CD recordings of the Belgian-Italian legend Rocco Granata. On top, Michel still finds time to travel the world with his own Trio, despites his dazzling diary.
