Duo Claire Bourdet & Karel Coninx
(Belgium)

Claire Bourdet & Karel Coninx Want to Save the World
They are convinced that, in that regard, forming a musical duo is one of their best strategies so far. A few square feet of available space is all they need to show you how exactly. Starting from the corner of their own street at the local grocer, they have turned livingrooms and small businesses into cosy concert venues. They have launched a chamber music series for their neighbors, played at festivals in Belgium and abroad, and have been the guests of the Belgian Embassy in Lebanon to perform as soloists in Beirut, with the Lebanese National Orchestra.

Claire Bourdet is known as a violinist of refreshing ideas and a contagious generosity. Her musical carreer so far has been as captivating as it has been diversified. As a soloist, chamber musician or guest concertmeister with Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, Quatuor MP4, Olive Piano Trio, Orchestre Sturm und Klang, Ensemble Pulsar or Bruocsella, she has performed at danceXmusic (coproduction LaMonnaie/Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel/P.A.R.T.S.), Festival International de Musique de Chambre en Poitou (FR), Gaume Jazz Festival, Atelier Marcel Hastir, Bromsgrove's Festival, ... Claire studied at the Menuhin Academy in Bloney (Switzerland) and at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels. Among her most important teachers were Igor Oistrakh and Liviu Prunaru. She was a prize-winner at several international music competitions: Bromsgrove's Festival (U.K.), Jeune Soliste (Belgium), Prix de la SACEM (France).

In order to move and inspire her audiences, her pupils, her two daughters, and anyone who's open to it even better, Claire continues her artistic research, studying the art of Danza Duende with Yumma Mudra.

Karel Coninx is a freelance musician with an insatiable musical curiosity. Recently, he has played concerts with the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium, Cordis Quartet, contemporary music groups Champ d'Action and Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, as well as with pop/rock formations Hooverphonic and Zita Swoon Group. As a founding member of the Sun*Sun*Sun Orchestra, he explores common grounds between pop, chamber, experimental rock and other music.

A series of concerts in duo with violinist Claire Bourdet has lead to a solo performance in Beirut, with the National Orchestra of Lebanon. Karel has performed at music festivals in Belgium (Ars Musica, Midis- Minimes, Festival van Vlaanderen, Basilica Concerten, Dranouter, Dijlefeesten, Tik-Tak-Toe, TRANSIT), the Netherlands (Gergiev Festival Rotterdam), France (Festival International de Musique de Chambre en Poitou, Concerts en nos Villages), Italy (Casalmaggiore International Festival, Pietrasanta in Concerto), Spain (Semana de la Musica Segovia, Festival Pau Casals), Mexico (Festival Erasmo Capilla) and the United States of America (I Palpiti).

He has won prizes in the Kiwanis and in the Scolarta Music Competitions. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Paul De Clerck, and at the Chicago College of Performing Arts with Roger Chase.
