Renato Borghetti

Renato Borghetti (accordeon), Daniel de Sa Leite (gitaar), Vitor Peixoto (piano) en Pedro Figueiredo (sax, fluit)
De roots van de leden van het Renato Borghetti Quartet liggen bij de gauchos van Rio Grande do Sul, in het uiterste zuiden van Brazilië, tegen de grens met Argentinië en Uruguay aan. Bandleider Borghetti bespeelt de ‘gaita ponto’, een soort knoppenaccordeon die steviger en dieper klinkt dan een normale accordeon. Renato vermengt op geheel eigen wijze traditionele stijlen als melonga, chacarera en chamame, met elementen uit de pop, jazz, fado en tango.
“Borghettino”, zoals zijn fans hem noemen, speelt en produceert al meer dan 20 jaar CDs en is geen haar veranderd, trouw aan zijn volstrekte gaucho stijl. Hij heeft het podium gedeeld met artiesten zoals Stephane Grapelli, Ron Carter en Hermeto Pascoal en is ook de eerste Braziliaanse muzikant die met louter instrumentale muziek een gouden plaat heeft behaald. Zijn laatste project “Fandango!” (CD en DVD) werd bij hem thuis opgenomen, in zijn ranch, die voor de gelegenheid omgetoverd werd tot studio. Het album werd verkozen tot beste CD/DVD van het jaar in Porto Alegre en genomineerd voor een Grammy Latino en werd dan in maart 2009 in Europa (bij Felmay) uitgegeven. Renato Borghetti en zijn medemuzikanten zien spelen is een spektakel op zich, vol energie en humor.
